About the program

The UBC Military Veterans Program (MVP) is a free, 8-week pre-apprenticeship training program designed to prepare transitioning service members for careers in the skilled trades. This training provides participants with foundational knowledge, hands-on instruction, industry safety practices, and an introduction to the tools and skills used by professional union carpenters.Upon successful completion of the program and separation from military service, graduates are eligible for direct entry into a United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) registered apprenticeship program. Apprentices receive paid on-the-job training, progressive wage increases, classroom instruction, and access to union benefits while building a long-term career in the construction industry.Employment and apprenticeship opportunities are available nationwide and may include work in commercial construction, interior systems, concrete, scaffolding, general carpentry, and other specialized areas of the carpentry trade.

Jobs this program prepares you for

Union Carpenter apprentices work on a wide variety of commercial, industrial, and infrastructure construction projects. Work may include constructing, installing, repairing, and maintaining building frameworks and structures; concrete formwork; interior systems; doors and hardware; scaffolding; and other carpentry-related systems. Apprentices receive structured on-the-job training and classroom instruction while working toward journey-level status. Work requires a strong commitment to safety, reliability, teamwork, quality craftsmanship, and the ability to work in physically demanding construction environments.
