About the program

The "Introduction to Film and Media Production" is an intensive 8-week certificate program specifically designed for transitioning soldiers, veterans, and their families, leveraging their unique discipline and teamwork skills for success in the media industry. The curriculum provides comprehensive, hands-on training in all phases of professional film production, from initial concept to final delivery. Structured with classes Monday through Thursday for four hours each day, the program ensures an immersive learning experience while providing a valuable three-day weekend. This extended break is strategically allocated for four major homework projects, giving students ample time to develop critical storytelling and editing skills by creating their own content with personal equipment, solidifying the technical and creative concepts learned in class. The course balances creative theory with practical application, covering everything from visual storytelling, script breakdown, and talent management to the technical operation of professional cameras, lighting, and audio equipment. Students will progress through foundational skills to advanced techniques in cinematography, sound design, and post-production, culminating in two major team-based projects: a 60-second commercial and a 6-8 minute short film. Upon completion, graduates are prepared for immediate entry-level employment as versatile crew members, with specialized skills qualifying them for roles such as Production Assistant, Camera Assistant, or Grip/Electric Technician on professional film sets, providing a direct pathway to a successful career in the film and media production field.
