About the program
Jobs this program prepares you for
Eligibility & prerequisites
Due to the sensitive nature of the police career, only those candidates who are the best match for the position will be selected after a panel interview and a background investigation (the polygraph portion of the background will be waived until the SkillBridge candidate is selected by SJPD and will be conducted within the first three weeks of their assignment) . Service members will have demonstrated a high level of integrity and character during their time in the military. Even if a candidate has never been charged with a crime under state law or under Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), that does not preclude a candidate from being disqualified based on the San Jose Police Department Backgrounds unit discovering that a crime was committed.
Application for Police Recruit and Selection Process:The purpose of this SkillBridge opportunity is to ultimately get hired as a San Jose Police Recruit. Because of this, all SkillBridge applicants for the San Jose Police Department SkillBridge will apply for the Police Recruit Opportunity just like any other candidate. Selection will require a short interview with San Jose Police Department Recruiting unit and approximately 2 months in backgrounds. While other candidates for the San Jose Police Recruit opportunity will be required to test on their own time, testing for SkillBridge service-members will be waived until their SkillBridge assignment, during which they will be able to favorably complete a written test, a physical agility test, and an oral board panel interview test for the Police Recruit vacancy as part of their on-the-job training. Candidates who are selected and who successfully complete the San Jose Police Department SkillBridge program will be given preference for hiring.
