About the program

This Med Surg Registered Nurse opportunity provides transitioning service members with hands-on experience delivering patient-centered care in a collaborative, high-reliability healthcare environment within the Charlotte area of Advocate Health. Based in a large academic, Level I trauma facility, participants strengthen clinical, leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while caring for diverse patient populations. The role aligns closely with military-developed competencies such as adaptability, accountability, team leadership, and mission-focused performance, supporting a successful transition to civilian healthcare practice. Nurses complete a structured onboarding process that includes a one-day, in-person facility orientation, required asynchronous learning (regulatory education and Epic training), and approximately 6–12 weeks of precepted clinical experience, with orientation length tailored to individual experience and the assigned unit.
